Bosch AquaStar Model 1600P is the right size for most homes and is the ideal household water heater. While it provides endless hot water, it saves you money because it only operates when you use hot water. This tankless water heater also saves valuable floor space as it mounts right on the wall.

My old water heater vented with 3" vent. This unit take 5" and above 2000 ft elevation you must vent with 6". I'm just under 4000 ft. So you must install new vent up through the roof. The unit uses more gas, but for a much shorter time, so it must have 3/4 inch gas pipe plumbed to it. All in all quite a bit of work, but I'm sure it will pay for itself in the long run. I did all the labor, if someone had to pay a plumber to install the product it would be a much longer time before it would pay for itself!7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Not WonderfulBy werner45I bought this water heater to replace another one identical to it. The old one started leaking under warranty. I couldn't get Bosch to honor their warranty without a long, ridiculous, and bureaucratic process. I decided it would be easier and faster to purchase a new one. I don't like this water heater, but all my plumbing, venting, and space was designed especially for it. It doesn't seem to save money. The energy guide says this water heater uses approximately $243 of propane per year at $1.23/gallon. Propane is $2.79/gallon here, so $551/year is more like it. It's very difficult to adjust the temperature to a desirable setting. You have to run the water for a long time before it heats up. Factor that in with the cost of the water heater, propane, expensive replacements parts, worthless warranty, and it doesn't seem very efficient at all. If I had the space, I would have saved money and bought a regular water heater. I can't recommend this water heater to anyone who has space for a regular water heater.*UPDATE* Less than 1 year after installing this new tankless water heater, it was replaced by a regular 40 gallon electric water heater. I had to build a space to put it, but it is much cheaper to operate and maintain than the tankless. The water pressure doesn't fluctuate and it's hot as soon as I turn on the tap.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful.Never worked properly, and lousy customer supportBy philipwyliefanI bought this from a local store without any warning that if you don't get a Bosch approved installer to put it in, they blame everything on improper installation. I replumbed my first house 35 years ago, so when I say it was simple to install, I mean, that except for my paranoia about running the gas pipes, I could have put it in myself. The instructions were complete and easy to follow.... however, it wouldn't work properly from day one. The two adjustment dials had to be set at one setting or it wouldn't light or heat the water. I tried to call bosch at least 9 times and usually gave up after sitting on hold for 25-45 minutes without human response. The times I talked to a human, they established that a non-approved installer had put it in, and therafter lost interest. Either they talked to me as if I was an idiot or they put me on hold for 20 plus minutes and never came back. I finally played with the dials and figured out how to get the one temperature of hot water this would produce. Then, after about a year it quit working. After several calls, I got thru and got the same 'you're an idiot for not getting someone certified to work on it, so I called the closest such shop... 50 miles away and theykd bill me for the service call, milage and then a 2d call to install whatever parts were needed, since they don't stock. parts. Best guess $500+ to fix when it cost $600 new. I tried bosch again, finally got to a human who was very helpful, but the parts we decided were faulty total $300 w no returns or labor cost. Guess I'll research the competition and get one that works and lasts more than a year. This has cost me about $900 for heating water in my weekend house for a year.See all 8 customer reviews...
