Big torque—-that's what this driver's about. It's lightweight, compact and so simple to use--just pull the collet locking sleeve forward, chuck in a bit, let the sleeve go and you've got 950 inch-pounds of torque in your hand. We got the best results with a little patience, starting slowly, blasting the speed and letting off gently, slowing to a stop. You'll learn to sense when the fastener is seated, because if you give it another go, the tool will twist right out of your hand. A couple of nice features set it apart from the competition, including a super comfortable rubberized grip and an integrated, three-position LED work light. It illuminates when you squeeze the trigger, or, if you prefer, you can turn the thumbwheel and shut the light off (though we found it pretty handy). Unlike other drills and drivers, the brushes on this model are easily accessible for cleaning and eventual replacement—all you need is a coin to twist open the cover. We like that it comes with two batteries, so you can one-hour charge one and keep working with the other. Bosch makes it very clear that this is a driver and shouldn't be used as a drill. I'm thankful that my disease is moderate, but anything I can do to help his victory.I bought this as an extravagance. I had been driving screws with a cordless drill without too much difficulty except for those times when I needed to reach into a cabinet, or when the pilot hole wasn't quite right. The torque of the drill could really strained my elbows and wrists in those situations.The difference that this impact driver makes is just incredible. First of all, I don't have to grip the driver as tightly as I had to grip the drill. It just doesn't take that much effort to hold on while the driver does the work. Then, the torque effect just isn't there. The quick hammer blows inflicted by the driver don't transfer up into my joints the way the continuous torque of the drill did.The last bonus was discovering what a socket attachment could do on the end of this tool. I needed to assemble a band saw stand with dozens of half-inch bolts, and the entire job was almost effortless with the impact driver.Battery life is excellent, too.
